There are many kinds of materials: 
metal crown, PFM crown, full zirconia crown, zirconia layered ceramic crown, e.max crown, e.max layered cermaic crown.

Comparing to metal crown, full ceramic crown has better biological compatibility and better translucency and esthetics.
